DescriptionThis cover page from the Marvel Godzilla run is my one true "grail page". This is one piece of original comic art I never imagined I would own, and actually purchased after searching for another page. This story begins with the Godzilla #14 page 27 below page I found in a miscellaneous Graphic Collectibles box during my first San Diego Comic Con in 2002. Besides this page, I purchased several other Herb Trimp Godzilla pages for $75.00 each. For some reason, I didn't purchase the page before this, page 26. After returning from Comic Con, I went back to the Graphic Collectibles website. The page was still listed, but when I went to purchase it, IT HAD BEEN SOLD!!! Skip ahead about a year, still searching for this page, I located the person who owned the cover to Godzilla #10 on the old www.longbox.com comic art website (which has morphed into the comicartfans.com website over the years). I sent him an email inquiring if he owned any Godzilla pages from issue #13. He told me no, BUT HE DID OWN THE COVER TO ISSUE #13!!! I asked him if it was for sale, and I think I actually quote him a price. At the time he said it wasn't for sale, so I pretty much forgot about it. A few months later, he asked me if I was still interested in buying it, and the rest is history. And to quote Doctor Manhattan from Watchmen, "Nothing ever ends", not even this story. I had the cover to Godzilla #13 displayed along with other original comic art on one of my various attempts at websites over the years. One day, I received the following email (name withheld to protect the innocent):Hey, I saw you have a really nice collection of Godzilla art! I also loved that old series. My favorite issues were 12-14 with the 3 mega beasts. If you ever decide to part with the cover to #13 or any of the interiors to #14 (I own the page right before Rhiann gets his wacked off by his bio blade!) feel free to let me know! Thanks! So the page I had been searching for found me. For some reason, I didn't buy it at the time (again). When I went back recently to see if it was still available, THE EMAIL ADDRESS WAS DEAD!!! So the adventure continues... Social/Sharing |
