Description

This crazy cover of the JLA (with guest star Supergirl) squaring off against super-powered animals reminded me of my favorite chapter in a 2 part Adventure era Legion tale. In the 2 part Legion of Outcast story we saw Superboy and Supergirl having their memories erased and leaving the Legion for a while. So when in Adventure Comics Issue 351 the Substitute Legion are sent back in time by some of the Legionnaires to collect the hoofprint of an enchanted beast ie: Comet the Superhorse, Supergirl does not remember who the Substitute Legion are , She summons the Super-Pets to attack and subdue these strangers. A la JLA Issue 132, Heroes and super-powered creatures rush to do battle and John Watson lets the madness ensue. I love the whole commission but I got a real kick seeing Streaky the Super-Cat go nuts when Chlorophyll Kid unleashes his secret weapon CATNIP. The whole cover is chock full of Silver age goodness.

I love, LOVE this piece!! Chlorophyll Kid vs. Streaky alone is worth the price of admission---and John continues to impress with his ability to take what should be absurd, and yet imbue it with life and verisimilitude. Congratulations on another great commission!
