Green Lantern: Rebirth #4 - Cover

I was absolutely thrilled to finally be able to acquire a cover from GREEN LANTERN: REBIRTH. The work that Geoff and Ethan did on this title brought me back to comics, and I think really started the push to bring back DC's Silver Age heroes that had "retired" to a position of prominence. As for this particular piece--not only is it "a" cover from REBIRTH--this is the issue where Hal came back.

In addition to Van Sciver's usual detail, he has inserted his trademark subversive sense of humor into the equation as well. The cover is a nod to the classic cover to GREEN LANTERN/GREEN ARROW #85 cover by Neal Adams. Kyle looks like he's taken Speedy's place, the way his arm is outstretched and the expression on his face. I don't think it's too much of a stretch to see the arc of Green Arrow's bow as looking like a rubber band coming from the top of Kyle's upper arm. And finally, in what I think was the clincher, Will Gabri-El has noted that Green Arrow's arrow, lying just out of reach of Kyle's outstretched arm, shares a more than passing resemblance to a heroin needle.

In retrospect, I wonder if this one had any trouble passing the CCA?
