Description

A few years ago at MoCCA Fest, I had asked Kensuke Okabayashi, the creator of Java, if he would do a sketch of Princess Leia for me. I actually caught him at the end of the show, and I didn't have the best reference on hand. Keeping that in mind, in about 15 minutes he did a pretty good sketch of a lovestruck Jabba making googly eyes at Princess Leia, who was wielding a can of Hutt Repellant.

While I liked the sketch, I always thought that Ken could have done a better job if I had given him more time and better reference. I also felt bad about asking him to do a rushed sketch. So, a few years later, at the 2011 MoCCA Fest, I showed him the old sketch and asked him if he'd like to have a go at redoing it. This time around, I had plenty of reference for both Leia and Jabba, and I gave him my sketchbook on Sunday morning. Ken agreed to have a go at it.

It turned out that Ken was really busy that day, and only had time to do the basic layout. He asked if he could take the sketchbook home and finish the drawing there. I agreed. A week and a half later he returned it to me with this piece drawn in it

Unbelievably, Ken actually apologized to me for taking so long. What?!? A week and a half is a long time? That's Ken for you, a heck of a nice guy. In any case, it was well worth the wait to get a nice illustration like this one from him.
