Shadowcat - Richard Cox

Like many of you, I often browse through Deviant Art in order to expose myself to the work of artists who I'm not yet familiar with. Often times, I am delighted to find incredibly talented artists that somehow haven't risen to the forefront of the collective "comic consciousness" yet.

It was in this way that I found the work of Richard Cox. Mr. Cox is a master with markers: I find the way that he blends tone and shade, using shadow and light to create truly memorable pieces, astounding. Finally, when I saw a piece he did featuring Shadowcat and Magik...I couldn't resist commissioning him a moment longer. I set up a piece with him to be picked up at the 2011 Heroes Con--and this piece, featuring Kitty Pryde, was what resulted. Once again, look at the way he blends shade with grey tone markers alone! Amazing!

When Mr. Cox posted this on Deviant Art, his camera was unable to focus properly on the piece and his resulting picture (shown in the supplementary picture below) was rather blurry. He commented that it must have been Shadowcat using her phasing powers! The way she jumps off the paper at you, I think he was onto something there! Thanks, Mr. Cox!!! :D
