Description

Back in 1974 then-partner in Comics & Comix Bud Plant called me up to say we were going to Orvy Jundis' house in San Francisco to meet a new guy from the Philippines named Alex Nino. I was asked to bring along my complete run of Hal Foster Tarzan Sunday page fulls for Alex to view.

Seems Alex had his heart set on applying to DC to draw the Tarzan series then being published by that firm. We spent about 4-5 hours as Alex paged thru the run one page at a time absorbing Foster's incredible artwork.

When he finished taking in Foster from 1931 thru 1937, I asked Alex if he would draw in my book. This is what he produced. Now, the incredible thing about this pic is Alex started in the upper left corner and drew it down to the lower right corner, all without the aid of any sort of pencil preliminary sketch underneath. The man is incredible.
