Wonder Comics #160 (December, 1960)
Jill Trent, Science Sleuth in the Strange Crime Boss of Sterling City:

In this issue, a new crime boss appears in Sterling City, Jill and Daisy's home base, taking over operations from various factions and running them with an almost robotic efficiency. As revealed on the cover, that's no surprise, as he is a robot! Jill Trent (and girlfriend (?) Daisy) the Science Sleuth investigates and finds that things aren't quite what they seem.

The back-up features the Black Lion returning to action, fighting the crime boss Redclaw.

This is a take-off on the cover to Batman #160, which for boring sentimental reasons is a favorite of mine from Batman's weird science-fiction period. On that cover, Batman is being zapped by an alien. The Fraims here depict Jill being a little faster on the draw than Batman was.

Jill Trent and partner Daisy Smythe were a feature on the Nedor Comics' series "Wonder Comics". Jill Trent, the Science Sleuth, was a female adventurer from an unknown American city. She solved crimes through combination of her detective skills and scientific ingenuity. Jill was assisted by her best friend, Daisy Smythe. Both Jill and Daisy were quite capable of handling themselves in the fight, demonstrating proficiency with guns and some basic, but effective, fighting skills.

I figured that, with the advent of the Comics Code Authority, Jill would have moved into more of a science-fiction setting than fighting crime per se. But a criminal robot is still a criminal, right?

The real world "Wonder Comics" ended with #20 in the late 1940s, but in my fictional world, the continued publishing, at least until #160. I wonder what else appeared in those issues? Who knows, maybe someday we'll find out.

The Fraims produce what I think is their best work yet - love Daisy's face here!
