This may sound surprising to those of you who know what a HUGE Art Adams fan I am, but I have to say in all honesty that I was not really overwhelmed by Arthur's run of Superman covers for Action Comics. I kept waiting for that ONE COVER to jump out and grab me, and it never really materialized. Perhaps there's some truth to what some of you have already mentioned to me in private emails, about Arthur's ability to turn the really obscure characters into fabulous pieces of art, while some of the more iconic characters have already been done to death and leave little room for new and interesting interpretations.

Anyway, I'm sure that at some point down the line I will probably still end up with an Action cover. If nothing else than to keep my retrospective Adams art collection complete. In the meantime, I really feel that this piece fills that Superman void. With a bold and commanding figure of the big guy as the centerpiece, the image also contains three other members of the JLA. Talk about nice background, you can't get any better than having Wonder Woman, Zatanna, and Martian Manhunter alongside the Man Of Steel. In terms of size, the image area is about the same as what you would get if you drew the piece on an 11x17 board with room at the top for a logo. So just think of this as a cover with no logo. Works for me!

By the way, if ANYONE out there knows what card set this artwork is from, PLEASE let me know! Even better, if anyone has the actual trading card of this image, I would be happy to buy one from you! LMK :)

(8/15/08) The search is over! My buddy AJ just sent me the actual playing card that this piece was done for. I had to laugh out loud when I saw it. This magnificent illustration was actually reduced to a barely 2x2 inch image! TWO INCHES!!!!! Can you believe that? What a waste! Anyway, it was done for a 2007 DC/Upper Deck role playing game. Thanks Aaron! You are THE MAN! =)

It doesn't get much better than this! (well... without WW and Zatanna losing their tops anyway)

You're really scaring me Siedlik! I can only imagine what the underlying theme to your art collection might be! :)

My favorite thing about Art Adams - his women!! They're so hot, and this piece (pun intended) is no exception!!

Wish I could do it buddy, but this is my ONLY Adams Superman piece, so it would be pretty tough for me to let go. Sorry! But thanks so much for the kind words about my Adams collection. Glad you enjoyed it.

Wouldn't this be your first AA Trading Card art piece, this and the Elektra/Daredevil are both very nice, but if you ask me I prefer this one (DC Rules!)

You are correct.  That's why my description said, "this is the very first piece FROM ARTHUR'S EPIC SUBSET" , not my first piece of trading card art ever.  Artistically, I also think this piece is better.  But only because I prefer his 2004 style to his 1991 style.  If the dates and periods were reversed, it would be the DD/Elektra piece hands down.  The only point we DON'T agree on is that DC rules.  Haha!  But that's okay.  I welcome comments from DC fans just as much as Marvel fans.  Thanks for the comment buddy.
