BENOÎT BRISEFER (STEVEN STRONG) MRS ADOLPHINE Indian ink on paper, plate 12. Dupuis Publishing, 1965. Publication: Newspaper Spirou n°1297, 1963. 16,5 x 11,8 in. Estimate : 25 000 - 35 000 € This is quite a rare occurrence in the series of Benoît Brisefer albums, as Benoît returns home from school with a classmate with whom he seems to get along well. As always, Benoît is eventually misunderstood and rejected by this young girl, wrongly accusing him of being a “liar!” The humour which Peyo holds so dear is again present here in the duality of Mrs. Adolphine ; with Benoît one day coming across the robot created as a likeness of Mrs. Adolphine, and the next day meeting the real Mrs. Adolphine. As the real Mrs. Adolphine knows nothing of the previous day’s events, Benoît is plunged into absolute disarray and confusion. Although he acts in good faith, he no longer understands. In this strip we see that Benoît Brisefer is a real boy who can be fragile, which bolsters our affection for this ever so touching hero. Social/Sharing |
