DescriptionAnd so it began...At age 13, I visited local Montréal card store 'Palais des Cartes' where a box of the new Fleer Ultra Spider-Man '97 was just cracked by the owners. They were lucky to pull a 1:288-pack chase card called a Sketchagraph. I had a look, expecting a foil or hologram chase card, but instead found a striking piece of original art by Bob McLeod! I was shocked, but I loved it, and they let it go for 60$. Little did I know I had just embarked on an epic card hunting journey. In the early years of 1997 to 2001, my collection grew. I was working with a teenager's allowance and birthday money, and of course, this new tool called "eBay" and the internet. Here are the 19 cards I had amassed by my first year of college: Spider-Man & Mary Jane / Ed Benes Beetle / Sal Buscema Rhino / Shannon Denton Doctor Octopus / Mike Deodato Jr. Spider-Man / Terry Dodson Spider-Man / Tom Grummett Killer Shrike / Mark Irwin Spider-Man / Adam Kubert Spider-Man (Alien Costume) / Andy Kubert Mysterio (Beck) / Ron Lim Spider-Man / Bob McLeod Mysterio (Berkhart) / Tom McWeeney Scarlet Spider / Carlos Mota Spider-Man / Tom Palmer Hobgoblin / Alex Saviuk Doctor Octopus / Bill Sienkiewicz Sub-Mariner / Joe Sinnott Electro / Mike Wieringo Spider-Man / Mike Zeck Money was tight in college, and I decided to move on and kept these cards safely in an attic back at home. Over a Christmas Break in my senior year, though, I went up to the attic and scanned all my cards. I soon got the idea to present ALL of my cards together in one image. This simple ambition ignited my passion again, and with a vengeance. Follow the History slides; I would slowly capture the very Soul of Marvel. ------------------------------------------ Added (2004): Black Cat / Steven Butler Blade / Gene Colan Spider-Man, Iceman & Firestar / Bernard Chang Last Look: Beetle / Sal Buscema Blade / Gene Colan Rhino / Shannon Denton Doctor Octopus / Mike Deodato Jr. Mysterio (Beck) / Ron Lim Spider-Man / Tom Palmer Hobgoblin / Alex Saviuk NOTES - Berkhart enhanced Beck's original Mysterio suit with hologram projectors and an invisi-mask, a device totally concealing his head behind the bowl (Marvel Wiki, Amazing Spider-Man #142). - 'Last Look' lists the pieces that will disappear in the next arrangement, likely traded for strategic reasons.
