DescriptionThe Grim Reaper #1 (March 1941)Introducing ... the Grim Reaper! After the Nazis invade Paris in 1940, Bill Norris, an American studying at the Sorbonne, becomes the Grim Reaper. He leads resistance movements, coodinates attacks on Nazi supply lines, and generally interferes with the Nazi's plans throughout occupied Europe. Feared by the Nazi "terrorists" everywhere, he soon becomes #1 on the Gestapo's most wanted list. The cover symbolically depicts his ultimate aim - the utter destruction of the Nazi war machine, personified by der Führer himself, Adolf Hitler. ~~~~~~~~~ The Grim Reaper never actually had a comic of his own, being a cover feature on Nedor's "Wonder Comics" first 8 issues starting in 1944, shifting to a backup feature, then disappearing by 1948, mainly due to his post war villains being really lame. But, for whatever reason, I like him, so in my alternative history, he's a super-star!! Therefore his own book. Kind of like Captain America punching out Hitler, I like this idea of him menacing Hitler directly. Hence the same cover date as Captain America Comics #1 (March, 1941) - the news stand date would have been around December 1940. I don't imagine the real Gestapo actually had a "most wanted list" (like the FBI) beyond "innocent people everywhere", but it sounds cool, and being #1 must mean you're a super awesome good guy. (Apparently, there was a real-life woman named Nancy Wake "The White Mouse" who is often referred to as the Gestapo's "Most Wanted person".) David J. Cutler brings the idea to life. You should check out his deviantArt page and commission him yourself. The first additional image is my MSPaint type idea sketch. I fear I may have inadvertently drawn the cutest little Hitler ever. The second is an earlier draft sketch David did. Even though it's equally as good, it wasn't workable as a fake cover, as there wasn't room at the top of the image for text. The third image is my crude mock-up of the cover with logo, etc.. Social/Sharing |

I love seeing commissioned art by people who love obscure heroes as much as I do. Well done!
