Byrne & Sinnot were a superb team!
John Byrne and The Human Torch make a hot duo on this page!
Beautiful piece!!
I've often poked fun at the 'Marvel Dialog' in pages on this site, because it is generally overly operatic Kirby/Kirbyesque dialog, but this page I remember because it is so human. Johnny finally facing the reality of himself. It is profound and very moving.
"I'm shallow...all surface glitter and flash--like my stupid powers."
"I can light up the heavens, but I'm nothing more than a glorified match-stick."
"I've treated my friends abominably--what few friends I've had."
"No one's ever stuck with me...because I've never had anything real to give them!"
Wow. That is a deeply moving moment in a comic book. A-comic-book. It really is. And Byrne's portrayal of it totally hammers it home. Tremendous.
Wow, that is one awesome page, errr, fantastic page, Byrne/Sinnott/Wolfman were just killin' it, congrats!
Man oh man, what a great great FF page!!
