First appearance of the new and improved Alan Scott : Gay and Proud, the only Green Lantern of Earth-2 ! Illustrated by the beautiful Nicola Scott and courageously penned by James Robinson, purchased at SDCC 2012, July 13.

I remember the first time reading this issue of Earth-2 and saying to myself, “Wow, the new Alan Scott is hot ! Too bad he isn’t gay….” I was thinking at the time that Nicola makes all her guys extremely hot (that’s why I buy all her pages with Superboy in it ) so I really didn’t think much of it except I felt that this Alan Scott had a bit of a gay aesthethic, metrosexual vibe if you will. Little did I realize….my wish was fulfilled.

This hot man is not only gay but he is damn proud to be gay, in a relationship with a hot Eurasian (wish ithis was me...just kidding baby!) and is destined to be the most ideal hero of his world after Superman has long gone. What’s not to love ?

I am not much of a Green Lantern fan…I like Kyle Raynor and Terry Berg , who I thought might be interesting if the GL corps made him a lantern. However, to retcon a 1940s character even if he is not the main GL character is amazing and really, who would think something like that would ever happen?

As a result, I bought the DC archives of Golden Age Green Lantern and rediscovered this character. Thanks to James Robinson for infusing new life into this character.

If you read his first appearance issue back in All-American Comics from the 1940s, the word “queer” comes up once or twice. There’s something poetic about that.
