Description
Walt Kelly original Daily Pogo comic strip, published on June 15th, 1966
"Why do you figger you gotta fly if you go to Mars?"
This is a daily Pogo Strip by Walt Kelly, hand drawn and inked by Mr. Kelly, featuring Pogo himself, the great Howland Owl, and Peanie Brickle the Elephant.
Mars is the topic of the day, in one of the best overall sequences that Kelly ever came up with, eventually spread over many months.
The strip is in good overall shape with minor off-white coloring from age, and folded down the center as Kelly did when shipping to the printers for publication (not really noticeable when framed under glass). It has the normal few pin holes around the border, used by Kelly to hold in place while inking.
The artwork itself is hand brushed black ink over blue pencil. Signed "Walt Kelly".

With Pogo strips, it's easy to find those that look great, but it occasionally seems as if it' is difficult to find one with a good "joke".  This is one of those that perfectly nails the gag (even in Portuguese I'm sure that the humor comes across), and it's beautiful too!  Great strip.
