Batman - Night of the Owls by Rafael Albuquerque

This was an "I can't believe this happened" commission. After reading "Night of the Owls", I knew I had fallen in love with the "Thrasher Armor" Batman. It was so different than any previous Batman I had seen and the idea that Batman needed a mech suit to take on the Owls gave me the idea that this was a Batman who was throwing everything he had at his enemy. It reminded me of the last time Batman had famously "armored up" to take on Superman in Dark Knight Returns.

I checked Rafael's website, saw he was taking commissioned but was dismayed as his window had been open for a few months, giving me the idea that it had been well closed. Luckily, Rafael responded to my query and quickly brokered this. It was one of my prized
pieces from that year's NYCC.

Rafael's use of inkwash and shadowing gave the thrasher armor an intimidating look and I was furthermore impressed with how he was able to expertly angle both the bat symbol and the Talon in grip. He nails both angle and symmetry in the the Thrasher Bat's pose.

A beautiful two character piece, I was humbled to finance this amazing piece of art.
