Description
Guy Davis' The Marquis left such a vivid impression upon my imagination, that I knew that I wanted to pay homage to it somewhere in my collection. For the uninitiated, The Marquis resides in a fictional town called Venisalle in a fictionalized (and disturbing) version of 18th century France. The story revolves around Vol de Galle, a former Inquisitor of The Faith, who has the ability to see demons, many of which have infiltrated society disguised in human form. With this in mind, I thought that the costume/iconography that Daredevil wears would really throw The Marquis for a loop, and he would perceive DD as an arcane threat that needed to be sent packing. Based on his deft ability to handle both violence and the supernatural, I felt like Tone Rodriguez would be a wise choice to tackle this particular project for me. The results speak for themselves. I love the Lovecraftian creepiness that lurks in the shadows on the periphery of the confrontation and the Sam Keith-like looming malevolence in the background. What a cool visual! I can't recommend Tone highly enough.
Nice! I wasn't familiar with The Marquis until Brian sent me a photo of a pinup he had done of the character. I'll have to look more into him. Sounds great.
