Fatale TPB #1 | Death Chases Me (20x15)

I've admired Sean Phillip's painted work over the years, but I never pulled the trigger on a piece as I kept waiting for one that really appealed to me both in terms of the art and the story it belonged to. I'm a huge fan of the work he's done with Ed Brubaker on Criminal & Incognito but lately I've been engrossed in Fatale. It was supposed to be a limited series, but was recently extended to an ongoing.

The covers to this series have been consistently high quality (both covers to the #1 issue in particular are brilliant in my opinion), but when I saw the first TPB (Death Chases Me) cover I contacted Sean to see if it was still available. Fast-forward. After a stint on exhibition in the U.K., Mark Hay facilitated the acquisition of this piece and I couldn't be happier. It's an over-sized piece (20x15) and looks simply stunning in person, the color palette is wonderful and complements the mood of this piece perfectly.

Ed and Sean's work is without a doubt going to go down as some of the best in the genre, and their ability to craft crime/noir tales in such a symbiotic way never ceases to amaze me. This particular title's mix of Lovecraftian horror and crime really appeals to me and the art just works magic - it stylistically reminds me of some of my favorite noir movies from years gone by (Chinatown, Sunset Boulevard, The Big Heat, etc.). I think this is the Phillips piece I've been looking for, and it's one of my favorites.

Have always enjoyed Brubaker's stuff, especially CRIMINAL. Finally got around to reading this, don't know why it took me so long. Great read. Great cover! (I'll bet Philips used himself as the model for the man here.)

Killer cover!!!, i voted for it to the best of 2012. I think Sean Phillips have a retro style, i don´t know like he do it, but any of his covers reminds me the old pulp magazines. i hope in any. I hope to achieve someday a piece in color, if the economy allows me, of course.
