DescriptionContinuing my theme, here is Mario Chavez' interpretation of Mara Corday. Let me start by saying that not only is Mario quite talented, he is very easy to work with and does great work!Corday is a native Californian who went to Hollywood in her teens to be an actress. She was very pretty and quickly found work as a showgirl... which lead to her becoming a model that led to a bit part as a showgirl in a 1951 film. She became a contract player for Universal International Pictures where she had small roles in various B-movies and television series. Her sci-fi connection was roles in Black Scorpion and The Claw in 1957. A bit of trivia is that she was a longtime friends of Clint Eastwood and she appeared in several of Eastwood's movies including the brief-but-significant moment in Sudden Impact (1983), where she played the waitress dumping sugar into Harry Callahan's coffee in that movie's iconic "Go ahead, make my day". This image is taken from the 1957 movie Girls On The Loose where she plays the leader of a gang of women thieves. She is shown here in a classic film noir... under the street light shot holding a pistol. Social/Sharing |

A photo of miss Corday taken by Bruno Barnard of Hollywood was swiped by the master Gillette Elvgreen for one of his Calendar Pin ups. Please see about this the section "Swiping" in my gallery.

I do disagree with your definition pf "swipes" including photo- or model reference. If you don't draw what you see... what do you draw. Many of the great artists used photos and models for reference... Raymond, Williamson, Frazetta. Are they all swipes?

Are they all swipes?Probably there was a misunderstanding, and probaly the word "swipe" is not the right word in this case. I am the SAME your opinion about artists and models. What I noted is that in one book about the art of Gillette Elvegreen there is a photo of one of his model near one of his painting (see it in my gallery), but that painting was "ispired" by the photo of Mara and NOT by the photo of his model published in the book (!)
