Description

I first encountered Mike Mayhew's art in X-Men Origins: Jean Grey (2008). Mayhew was a perfect choice to complement Sean McKeever's writing in this origin story for Marvel Girl and the results are dazzling. I haven't had any luck in tracking down pages of original art from that issue, but I've been fortunate to find a few pieces by Mayhew on eBay, including this painting of Magik from the New Mutants. As you can see, Mayhew does a remarkable job of capturing expression and energy with his use of color, contrast and texture.
