DescriptionWhere do I even start with this one. First, let me open by saying this is totally, insanely amazing and will never, ever leave my collection. The scan is pretty good, but it still pales in comparison to seeing this in person. Dawn is the first artist that chose Katniss off of my list (actually she had another option she liked but Katniss was her first choice because she liked the idea of putting something together around the dress with flames coming off of it). Before she started on this, she asked what ideas I had and I gave her the following instructions:1) A sleek, form-fitting, sexier top part of the dress but left the rest of the dress to her design. 2) Braiding in her hair. 3) Work the flame/fire effect into the hair. 4) Glitter/dot accents to skin and/or dress. 5) Shimmering effect around the eyes and/or on the skin. Based on the above direction, this is the result. I was totally thrilled to have this made and the way it turned out exceeded my expectations. What is so great about this is that the design is a combination of pieces from the films (including the upcoming Catching Fire) and books. The sleeker, black portion is a nod to the costume worn at the opening parade in the movie; the lower flaming portion is a nod to the dress Katniss wears on stage for her first interview in the movie; the crystalline wing-like extensions are from a dress shown in promo pieces for the upcoming Catching Fire; the white rose, braided hair, and mockingjay (background) are all prominent in the books and movie. The face is modeled on Jennifer Lawrence, but instead of going with her eye color, gray was used (as described in the book). Some additional specifics on this piece from Dawn ... "Girl on Fire" Katniss Everdeen commission for Alan Hamilton. 11X17 worked on it at home & HeroesCon, NC. Tools used: PITT pens Copic markers silver & white gel pens Watercolors (W&N brand) Shimmer powder applied with make-up brush dabbed in hairspray for staying power. Sadly, this angle doesn't pick up the shine, but her skin catches the light really pretty-like. Social/Sharing |
