King had used the same gag, Skeezix' greater interest in simple things rather than expensive gifts, more than a year and a half earlier, in the Christmas daily for December 26, 1921. But Skeezix has much more character in this strip - and he could actually explain in simple words why he cared more for the pretty postage stamps than the toy boat. As a youngster, Skeezix often showed himself to be a philatelist.
