DescriptionThe journey through the long boxes of ol' continues! How can you -not- love the Celestials! I mean, they're like the purest of Kirby! I remember being so totally psyched when I found this issue (back in '85). This is probably my favorite issue of the series. You've got the Celestials, Ego shows up, the Spirit-Mold thing shows up from Simonson's Thor run, even the Presence makes an appearance. It's everything cosmic Marvel. One of those times that, rather than reading the comic, I just kept flipping through the pages. The Avengers finally get to fight Kang / Immortus / Scarlet Centurion / Rama-Tut but it doesn't last long as the Celestials show up to figure out what's happening to time. The Kang gang gets scared and starts running. Stumbling across Ego and thinking it'd be a good hiding place (obviously). The Avengers head out in pursuit but the Celestials don't want them to. They say that they need to fix time themselves and the Avengers need to butt out. They pull together a bunch of cosmic baddies (seen on the cover) to slow the Avengers down: The Presence, Terrax the Tamer, the Super-Skrull, Ronan the Accuser and the K'rll's Spirit Mold. The Avengers do what they can with the line-up of the WWII Cap, Giant-Man (in his funkiest outfit) and the Wasp - with a little help from Star Lord, Adam Warlock and the original Captain Marvel (as seen on the cover). Plus, if all that wasn't enough, you get to see Ego the Living Planet, the One-Above-All, Arishem the Judge and even one of the mysterious Makers (from Micronauts - had to look that one up). How they were going to wrap this thing up next issue was beyond me. That was one looooong month's wait for a teenager. Social/Sharing |
