Planet's Greatest Comics #170 (Feb 1966)
Hyperman and Nightman Face -- "The Robotoids from Planet Xenar-Foom!"

In this classic of the long-running series from Comics Deluxe, the planet's greatest super-heroes face the threat of giant robots rampaging through their home base of Gothamopolis.

OK, so these are a couple of Silver-Age DC characters with ties to the real deals.

Hyperman originally appeared in Superboy #144, as the character Hyperboy (Not to be confused with the childhood identity of Hyper-Man of Oceania), part of an entire family (Mom, Dad, and Klypso the Hyper-Hound) who fought crime on a distant planet, Trombus. I don't think they ever appeared again, but I remember reading the issue (or a reprint) and thought the family in purple was pretty cool. Cool enough to remember it decades later, anyway.

Nightman was a rival superhero detective who briefly teamed up with Superman in World's Finest Comics #155. He turned out to actually be --- Batman, suffering from hypnosis induced amnesia of a sort.

So, in some other universe, "Comics Deluxe" published their adventures, and maybe they guest starred a "Superman" or "Batman" at some point as imaginary characters.

Another goodie, served up by the Fraim Brothers.

Still the gold standard for team-up comics, and one of the best covers of that era by the Fraim Brothers.
