Bill Sienkiewicz - Dr Strange

Over the years, a lot of characters have been given the Sienkiewicz touch. With his inimitable style of apparently random lines and spots, he manages to claim them all his own by deconstructing them before breathing new life in them.

I have been attracted by that large (art-board size) portrait of Dr Strange because I think Bill goes even beyond on that one. While close examination reveals the crazy line entanglement one could expect, it's only when you see the piece as a whole that it appears as an almost-classic portrait of the good Doctor, clearly paying the dues to Steve Ditko or, even the too-rarely seen Frank Miller version (itself a full hommage to Ditko, as well).

This exquisite graphic duality is perfectly suited to the nature of the character, constantly caught between realities!
