Bob Brown - Challengers of the Unknown 61 Page 13

I must admit I have a VERY soft spot for the Challengers! I mean, they were so apart from everything else! It must have been the tone, these 4 non-powered guys so bold and constantly cracking jokes at one another... I don't know, but, since they were published in France with no detail whatsoever (in one of those pocket-sized anthologies...), it took me years to understand they were part of the DC Universe!

Is is really surprising? Just look at their Rogue Gallery: Multi-Man, Villo & Brainex, Kra,... Have any of these ever appeared elsewhere? Would they even be relevant?

On top of it, I think Bob Brown's art on the Challengers is THE key contributing factor to the spirit of the book, to the extent that it folded very quickly after his departure. And, as much as I like seeing his art on other, certainly more major, strips, I really feel he gave his all to the zany, feel-good Challengers!

I heard that, since they always were a second-league (at most!) strip, it's rather difficult to find original Challengers art. Well, at least, here's some!
