Description

This years art anniversary present is a followup to a conversation I had with Bob Layton at Heroes Con in 2012.

I had chatted with Bob about doing the Tales to Astonish 65-69 Giant-Man uniform that has always been my favorite of the many guises Hank Pym has worn throughout the years.

One reason why I always wanted Bob to do it was because in my mind the chest protector is pure metal as opposed to a panel in TTA 65 where Janet Van Dye while designing the uniform explained the metal was underneath the cloth.

To me it makes sense that the chest design would be the same as the metal helmet Hank wore in those TTA adventures as well as Avengers 14 and 15 and would be polished blue metal on the outside.

Well, in my opinion there is no one better at depicting metal than Bob Layton, so when the adorable one asked me who should draw my art anniversary present I quickly reminded her of Bob whom she had the pleasure of meeting at the aforementioned convention. I so wanted Amy to meet Bob since his incredible JSA commission proudly hangs on a staircase landing in our home, so she sees it every day.

Bob was more that happy to do this and turned it around in record time.

Bob also complied with my request to make Hank's boots similar to the design he wore in so many previous TTA stories. Bob Powell, the artist who drew the TTA 65-69 stories made them less pointed, Jack Kirby stayed with the more familiar look in the TTA covers and Avengers 15 and 16.

I also like how Bob stayed on Kirby model for the mask. As far as I am concerned, the two models for mask designs are Kirby or Wood.

I'm sure after seeing this, more fans will join me in wishing Hank Pym had used this design in more exploits.

We all have favorite Pym costumes, as there were many to choose from...LOL! Bob did an outstanding job on this one for sure...huge congrats and Happy Anniversary!

Possibly the best rendition of Pym-as-Giant-Man that I've ever seen. And I love seeing under-utilized characters being drawn by artists that have rarely drawn them before.

Hah! Of course the great Mighty Crusaders fan Michael Dunne would ALSO love this Giant-Man costume! I thought I was the only one! I agree -- Best. Pym. Costume. Ever!
