Description
I do a base color before I start highlights and other fine details. I also use the smear tool in Photoshop to soften the edges of the inked lines. This gives it a softer look and looks closer to the pencils and inks than if I just painted over everything from scratch. It's also a good way to work out the colors. If they look good here, then the rest is easy.
