I've been waiting for the right Kirby to come along and this one fit the bill for me on several fronts -- great "4th World" style themes, pure Kirby, epic scale, and a piece with a great story behind it.

This mid-1980s commissioned art served as the inspiration for the article "The Big Moment" for The Jack Kirby Collector v. 2#5 (May, 1995). Collector Bruce Zick wrote, "Jack's mind was at work. He was telling a story about the drawing. A story within a story. Why the characters were at combat. Why he was inspired to do it. And not only why, but how it connected to the Kirby Universe. This was the progenitor race of beings that birthed not only Captain Victory, but a fledgling society of new gods. And then it connected to Orion of the Fourth World Mythology." Cool!

The scale of this piece is also very unusual; almost poster-size with an image area of 19" x 24". Really pleased to have picked this one up.
