Steve Purcell - Sam & Max pinup (Telltale Games poster)

My first Steve Purcell Sam & Max piece! Since I started collecting OA a Sam & Max piece by Purcell himself has been at the top of my wishlist and now I have a piece by the master himself. Not the perfect Sam & Max grail - that would be a published page from one of the comics - but a fantastic piece regardless.

A BIT OF PROCESS

A long time since I drew this weirdly understated poster image for the Sam & Max Telltale Games.

I made it in pieces starting with the line drawing, inked like any other line art I've done then on a xerox copy I painted the color layer in acrylic so it would have some texture. In photoshop I drew a purposely shaggy sketch for the background building then squished it all together in photoshop.

Since the Telltale games were a fresh appearance for Sam & Max I tried a new logo treatment based on a throwback font I liked because it was compact but lively. Some of my previous hand drawn Sam & Max logos are big and unwieldy though I still reuse them from time to time.

This was a dabble into layering various mediums during which I somehow managed to learn a few things for future reference.
