So I wasn't at Baltimore. In fact I have never been to Baltimore or the comic con there. But it seems that this is always the con where I get lucky when it comes to Mark Buckingham sketches.

The plan was to get a companion piece to the Boy Blue I got last year. Doug (over at comicsketchart.com) came through with flying colours and you can see that piece in this gallery as well.

But wait you say, this is Ambrose not Rose! My buddy Louie actually did me a real solid. He (and I think pretty much everyone who knows me) knows how much I love Fables and Mark Buckingham's art. So he dropped me a note saying that Mark was sketching and if I wanted something. Now I will admit, I thought about saying no. I was getting a Rose Red piece and I really didn't want to take up more of Mark's time. But in the end I couldn't resist. So I decided to see if Mark would be willing to draw either Ambrose or Stinky (though I should call him Brock Blueheart!). I love Snow and Bigby as much as anyone and I already was getting Rose and have a Blue piece, so I figured I'd give Mark a choice of characters he probably doesn't get asked to draw a lot.

I was stoked when he decided to do Ambrose. I will admit, initially I wasn't a big fan of the cubs. I didn't mind them but they were just kind of there. Cubs in Toyland changed that, but before that, the only real exception was Ambrose. I love that little guy. He's got a heart of gold, always tries to see the bright side and while he sometimes comes across as a little naive (hey, he's a kid) there is a... what do they call it? old soul? in him. I love that he approaches every situation giving the benefit of the doubt, not judging. To me, he is the secret hero of the pack, he's the glue.

I love this drawing. I love the happy go lucky expression and the fact that Ambrose is flying in his pjs. I think I read somewhere that both Mark and Bill are very fond of Ambrose and I think it really shows here. Man I am going to miss that little dude when the series ends.
