DescriptionFallen Angel is a comic book created and owned by Peter David (writer) and David López (artist). It's a fascinating story set in a town founded by Cain and located in Louisiana. The hero of the tale, Liandra, is (literally) a Fallen Angel. It gets stranger and more wonderful from there. You can read more on the link.Originally published by DC, it moved to IDW when DC cancelled it. At that point, J. K. Woodward became the cover artist. His painted covers blew me away. You can see the ones from the first IDW series here. I'd considered trying to buy a cover or get a commission from James, but never did anything until I stumbled over the Fist of Justice Kickstarter. FoJ looked interesting to me so I started down the perk list and found a J. K. Woodward painting of up to three characters for a reasonable price. Bingo! My art direction was as usual excellent and helpful. It went something like, "I'd like a dramatic cover featuring the Fallen Angel, the Mayor, and their son. The mayor and son are optional." He more than exceeded my expectations. Not only mine, but Peter David's too. James wrote, "Glad you liked it! BTW, I sent a jpg to Peter David and his reaction was 'wow'." Peter's reaction matched mine. Seriously, this should be the cover to the FA Omnibus. I also asked him a little about his process and he wrote: "The paper is 110% cotton cold pressed watercolour paper. I use because its almost as tough as canvas. I paint in gouache. I pencil it out first. here's a blog entry I did that covers the process." Beyond that, he also did the best job of packing that I've ever had from an artist. Check out the additional images to see. I asked him about the business side of his work after seeing how professional the packaging and invoicing were and he wrote, "I'm glad you like my little system. I've been doing this for years and have found that typing in my commissions when I get them and having all orders in the computer make it easier. Then each morning I print out an invoice and work on that job. The packing method is the only method I've found that the post office can't damage. You can send something flat with the words, "DO NOT BEND" on it, but they usually will bend or mash the corners 50% of the time. So i came up with this. Tghe packing all together only comes to about $4.50 and the shipping a little over 6. so for about only $11, I can assure people get the piece in decent condition. well worth the price." I totally agree on the cost of shipping comment. I'd be thrilled to pay an extra $11 for packaging like this on art that cost hundreds or thousands. P.S. James came to Houston's Comicpalooza in 2019 as part of the Comic Art House crew. As is common, I brought them to our place for dinner. James didn't remember the piece until I showed him a scan on my phone. When he got to the house, he asked if he could see it. He was quite impressed with what he'd done. How did I miss this. Fallen Angel is a great series. Love JK's art, an underrated artist and a very nice guy too. Great commission, congrats!

Great commission. I also loved J. K. Woodward covers on the series.
I was only able to pick up a couple of his duotone covers.
