Originally published, as a black and white drawing, within Little Folks - A Magazine for Young People in 1901. The drawing was published, in book form, within The Land of Enchantment (Cassell and Company, 1907) on page 129 with this text: "HE RAISED HIS HAMMER WITH A MIGHTY SWING".
It illustrates section six (entitled 'Thor's Journey to the Giants') of 'Stories from the Edda' by E.S. Buchheim. These printed appearances were of a black and white drawing.
As with many other examples, Rackham took his original drawing and added additional detail and colour.
Ink and watercolour (26,5 x 19,6 cm).
