Description

Rick Geary shot to the top of my graphic novel faves, when he began working on his Treasury of Victorian Murder series. His storytelling skills and use of reference material had me hooked from the start. I believe that a part of the appeal for me is the contrast that his cartoony, caricature style has to the dark subject matter. Whether it was reading the NBM volumes or gladly supporting his more recent Kickstarter campaigns, I've eagerly awaited and picked up each new book.

The Lincoln book is a solid read and I've recently become more curious with one of the forgotten victims of the assassination plot. Major Henry Rathbone and his wife were last minutes guests of the Lincolns that night and his life was shattered with that event. The years that followed saw his guilt, depression and PTSD-like symptoms grow into murderous rages and institutionalization. Facinating and tragic story. Geary managed to display the heroism of Rathbone to the shocking attack incredibly well.
