Description

Here's Dejah Thoris at once looking alluring and dangerous, as Edgar Rice Burroughs portrayed her. I wasn't the original collector who commissioned this. I bought it from someone on CAF, who got it from Jay via Kirk Dilbeck. Thanks, Don!

This exquisite rendering of Burroughs' incomparable heroine is arguably one of the best Dejah Thoris illustrations Jay's done. It remains unpublished, as far as I know. But there's always a chance it could eventually show up as a variant cover for Dynamite.

The beauty of drawing and subject speak here for themselves. The integration of type is tastefully manipulated, and doesn't add clutter or distract from the image. And the pulpish stylings of background, ornamentation, and weaponry add a terrific nostalgic feel.

I was a passionate fan of the Barsoom books in college. I have happy memories of passing the long bus rides to and from school in Pittsburgh with one Barsoom novel or another.
