Descriptionanother jon dahlstrom story, from a 1960's issue of drag cartoons. this story is sort of a mash-up of "on the waterfront" and disneyland - featuring bromo duck and his band in a drag race with marlon branfink (mickey mouse on steroids) at drizzlyland. dahlstrom's writing is rarely laugh out loud, but his drawings - especially in his re-workings of comic culture (this one with disney characters, and another story featuring orphan annie - see my CAF gallery), are great riffs on comic characters. these stories are pretty tame in relation to the underground version of such comics as mickey rat at the time; but like most artists of that ilk, dahlstrom's work was fueled by obsessive mark making, and trying to push up against "the establishment". like most of his work, this one is simply signed "by jon".Social/Sharing |

Among other things, I love the dreamlike amateurism in the scripting, as here, with the cop morphing into Drizzly himself. For me this feels more authentic than the better known UG satires, because it kind of seems like a twelve year old wrote it.

(in a good way!)

His drawing feels like a fresh battle launched in every panel, marshalling all available forces to rejoin the fight, over and over- it's got amazing energy.
