Retrofitting vintage comic stories with a modern perspective has now become a genre in itself... And, like in every genre, some are better than others...

Given that, I had two very good reasons to be grabbed by the first Avengers: Earth's Mightiest Heroes mini-series.

First was the story. Maybe this was indulgence on my part, but I had been so indelebly impressed by the sheer power and magnitude of the very first Avengers issues that I could never have missed an opportunity to dive back in that enchanted period!... And I really enjoyed the modern yet respectful way of retelling the early days of the Avengers...

Then, of course, was the Art. Scott Kolins did a stellar job in breathing life to the original quintet, so awkwardly assorted, so precariously balanced.

I have seen very little original art from this series so far, so I was very glad to have the opportunity to add one to my collection, especially when it depicts the first and, as it turns out, only official meeting of the original team: blink and you'll miss them, folks!

At first, I had thought this was only a pencilled page, but this is in fact inked with a very fine pen. Take my word for it: the scan doesn't do it justice!...
