This is a humorous painting by artist/cartoonist Robert 'Buck' Brown (1936 – 2007) for Playboy Magazine featuring the infamous and naughty 'Granny' character that he created in 1966. A previous owner purchased this beautiful mixed media artwork piece directly from Robert 'Buck' Brown’s private collection in 1995. In this painting we see Cinderella having made a wish to her Fairy Godmother, but things don’t go quite as planned. Her Prince Charming wants to skip the ball entirely and get straight to the “happily ever after”! Hahaha! I just love this timeless Playboy cartoon! This fabulous artwork was featured in the back issue of Playboy Magazine, February 1978 on page 199 and has the official Playboy stamp on the top front of the art. The artwork area is 9.5” L x 7.1” W rendered on 14.5” x 11.5” of heavy art paper. The paper is taped down to a 17” x 14” Bainbridge board. The caption at the bottom of the paper is in pencil and lightly written as can be seen in the photos. The caption reads: “But, Fairy Godmother, this isn’t the kind of ball I wished for!” Robert 'Buck' Brown was a true legend and innovative African-American artist/cartoonist who was influential in bringing hilarity and laughs to many generations in universally renown magazines with the likes of Playboy, Esquire, Ebony and Jet. He will be greatly missed, but his legacy lives!
