Sorry about the quality of this pic. This is a really fun page, and it's from Grant Morrison's R.I.P. storyline, a very interesting concept for a story. Rewind to back in the day, when the Comics Code Authority ruled the world, comics got pretty strange because they were limited in what subjects they were allowed to address, and science fiction was gaining popularity. Because of this, comics were trying to get in on some of the action, and to do this they came up with some strange storylines and characters. One of Batman's stranger stories was "Batman - The Superman of Planet-x", in which the Batman from Zur-En-Arrh brings what would become Earth-One Batman to his planet to help him defeat some baddies. This Batman of Zur-En-Arrh looks similar to Earth-One Batman, but instead of Batman's normal suit, this Batman's suit is a red-purple-yellow variant. The story is ridiculous, but in all fairness it was 1958, and not the best time for comics. Fast forward to 2006. Grant Morrison is writing Batman, the Comics Code Authority is defunct, and comics have improved a little since 1958. Morrison comes up with an interesting idea to bring back Batman from Zur-En-Arrh, and Bat-mite, and explain how these character makes sense in the gritty, more realistic, DC Universe of today, while maintaining continuity. Basically, Batman is suffering from hallucinations from a psychological breakdown due to the plans of the Club of Villains. In reality, he is Batman from Zur-En-Arrh, and fashions a suit together out of scraps and rags, and is basically having an extended bad trip. Really cool idea right? After that long synopsis, here's a little anecdote about the actual page here. I believe I bought this page on eBay, and I wasn't paying close enough attention. I loved the art, but I thought it was done by Tony Moore. I have the Batman R.I.P. TPB, and I liked the story, but for the longest time I thought Tony Moore was the artist, not Tony S. Daniel. It's odd that I thought this too, considering their art, while both great, looks completely different from each others. Anyway, I bought it, and only after receiving it noticed Tony Daniels autograph at the top. I felt pretty stupid, but I wasn't upset, after all, I still like the page and the story. Another tidbit: Damian Wayne is Robin at this point, and Tony S. Daniel's Joker has his hair slicked back, and is more muscular than most other depictions. Not my favorite Joker, but looks pretty cool nonetheless.
