Vine Launching Swamp Thing 1993 Kenner Action Figure Toy Illustration

This 10.5" x 9" original illustration on DC Comics Bristol board was penciled by Carmine Infantino and inked by Mike DeCarlo for an unproduced Kenner action figure called "Vine Launching Swamp Thing." This image would have likely been printed on the front of the cardboard packaging had the toy been released.

While based on the short-lived five-episode 1991 DiC Entertainment cartoon series, this piece is actually dated 11-4-93 in the DC Comics Special Projects Dept. check-off box on the back, suggesting that Kenner still had plans to grow the toy line while the show was in reruns.

A second series had, in fact, been in the works, and toy prototypes were shown in catalogs. The unreleased action figures included four additional Swamp Thing variants and two new bad guys: "Alligator Swamp Thing," "Capture Swamp Thing," "Climbing Swamp Thing," "Constricting Swamp Thing," "Defoliator Arcane," and "Scorcher."
