Nintendo 64 Super Mario Video Game Pitch Storyboard Drawings

These original storyboard drawings by Boss Game Studios artist Patrick Michael Clark were made for an unsuccessful Nintendo 64 Super Mario video game pitch to Nintendo of America. The blue-penciled panels depict Mario sprinting over a Whomp, a stone-wall enemy first introduced in Super Mario 64 (1996).

Boss Game Studios, an independent offshoot of Boss Film Studios, the legendary special effects company that got its start with Ghostbusters (1984), was located only a short drive away from Nintendo's American headquarters in Redmond, Washington.

Clark was the lead artist on the Blockbuster-exclusive racing title Stunt Racer 64 (2000).

Before that, he was an animator, beginning at Filmation in the 1970s. His credits include Fat Albert and the Cosby Kids (1972-1985), He-Man and the Masters of the Universe (1983-1985), She-Ra: Princess of Power (1985-1986), Ghostbusters (1986), and BraveStarr (1987-1989). He graduated to becoming an animation director for Marvel Productions on Muppet Babies (1984-1991), Attack of the Killer Tomatoes (1990-1991), and Bucky O'Hare and the Toad Wars (1991-1992). He also contributed to Ralph Bakshi's Cool World (1992).
