X-Men Cover Reinterpretation by Bob Layton.
This is a commission piece not a published piece.
Bob Layton was challenged to tackle the issue of the cover which he inked over Cockrum.
He used the interior/Issue actual title (Phoenix Unleashed) as opposed to The Flame, Frenzy and Firelord.
Signed Bob Layton '05 (After Cockrum).
This measures 17" X 11".

Phenomenal! What a stunning reinterpretation of X-Men #105! I love the fact that Layton dropped the Firelord figure from the the original cover and kept the focus on Phoenix! She is, after all, the one that the X-Men really need to worry about, and puttng the focus on her is only right and proper. Beautful art by Layton. I loved his inks on the original and it looks like he hasn't lost any of his edge! Gorgeous image of Pheonix, power radiating out of her hands like a smoking gun. Layton stuck to the original layout of the rest of the X-Men, laying battered and bruised at Phoenix's feet. Gorgeous inks throughout, which is to be expected of Bob, thick blacks give the scene a real solidity and make the art pop off the page! Great commission, congrats!
