DescriptionThis hobby hurts. You really bleed for the nostalgic pieces. I loved this era of Spider-Man by Sal Buscema and one of the highpoints was the recurring battles with Tombstone. As most Spidey villains go, Tombstone was one of the worst because he really was nasty, cruel, vicious, and intimidating. You really got the feeling he was a very formidable foe for Spidey and in this issue he beats the heck out of Spidey after Robertson actually drugs Spidey! (See the NEEDLE in Robbie's hand?). I always thought Tombstone was a GREAT secondary Spidey villain and he'd make a sensational big screen bad guy. This cover is a superb Buscema Spider-Man battle cover example with a lot going for it including dark prison setting, key supporting character Robbie holding a needle, great villain and our hero in chains (bondage) no less! With this cover I might be leading the league in Spidey in chains covers.Spectacular Spider-Man #155 October, 1989 "Crash Out!" Writer: Gerry Conway Social/Sharing |

Striking cover--Sal B.'s Spectacular Spidey work is really under-rated--it had a graphic quality to it that was very unique. Congrats!

What a dramatic and memorable cover! I love the detail of the profuse sweat on Tombstone's forehead as he wails away on Spidey. Big congrats Jason!

It pains me to see Spidey in trouble like this, but what an insanely awesome cover. You get a whole issue of story in one image, with all the accompanying emotion and drama. You are so right, Tombstone is a total bad@$$, and he definitely would make a great villain for a Spider-Man movie. Congrats Jason!

Yet another gem added to your killer collection, Jason! To me, Tombstone is synonymous with SB because of all those Spectaculer issues...some great battles he drew. This, to me, is one of his best covers from the run. Don't wanna be Spidey in this shot! Congrats!

Great cover! Tombstone always reminded me of a very scary Lee Marvin.

What a great cover! I have a real soft spot for Spectacular Spider-Man to start with, but then when you add Sal into the mix it's a home run.

Well, this cover is a real treat for the eyes, Jason. A superb Sal Buscema Spider-Man cover from his now historic multi-year run on Spectacular Spider-Man! And its a bondage cover, which always makes it more striking. But when you add a great bad guy, Tombstone, bashing Spidey while he is chained up, then what you have is a classic Sal Buscema cover!

OMG! What a killer Spider-Man cover! It's got it all--Spidey in chains! In prison! Helpless before Tombstone! This is my kind of story!
