Description
OK, here's one I could use a little help with. As mentioned in another description, I"m a huge Robin Hood fan, so finding this page was a real thrill. The problem is, I'm not sure what it's from. Based on the size, the stamps at the bottom, and the overall style, I'd place pre-1955. Also, Robin Hood illustrations from 1955 on (when many Robin Hood comics were published) show a clean-shaven Robin, based on Richard Greene's portrayal in the popular TV show. The Robin here clearly has a beard. But a look through comics.org shows precious little before 1955, and fewer still, if any, depicting Robin with a beard. There's a notation on the back that says "Sparling," but according to the CGD, Sparling's only work on the character was on a 1970s book and record set.
I'll admit, I'm stumped. If anyone can help me identify this piece, I'd be most appreciative.
**UPDATE** I got a very nice email from Cyrus Voris, who let me know that this splash is, indeed, by Sparling, and is from the Revised Edition of CI #7. I had looked in the original version, which is entirely different. Thanks, Cyrus, for giving me a head's-up on this piece!
