DescriptionVern Henkel broke into comics in the late 1930s, doing strips like "Comet Kelly" and "Captain Fortune" for Quality. He later did work for both DC and National, but gave up comics in the 1960s to work in advertising. It's not clear if this piece was ever published. According to an interview with Henkel, his first sale, while still in high school, was a "Heroes of History" page to GOLDEN FLEECE Magazine. It's possible that this was done as part of that submission, with only the published piece actually being used. Published or not, it's a great piece by an underappreciated artist.Social/Sharing |
