Many thanks to the fellow CAF member Alec Kastener for the detailed info about this beautiful painting by the Spanish master: it's always great to know what the original artworks in our collections were used for! :)

As an interesting note, I can add that the man wearing the basque is apparently modeled on famed British actor Michael Caine, who was asked to play the role of Rafer Janders in the film "The Wild Geese" (1978), based on the namesake novel by Daniel Carney (although, before its publication, the title was "The Thin White Line"). However, Caine refused for ethical-political reasons, since the film was to be shot in South Africa, where apartheid was applied back then. So the role was offered to Burt Lancaster, but finally played by Richard Harris.

Great piece. The layout really acents the title on the publication. My first thought was that's Richard Crenna from First Blood, but I see Caine when I look close. Cool backstory I never new about his apartheid protest.
