My heart is broken. Every year I post three pieces in celebration of Gay Pride.

I dedicate these three pieces to the 49 souls who lost their lives early morning June 12, 2016 at the Pulse Nightclub during Latin Gay Night in Orlando, Florida at the hands of a cowardice hate monger with a gun.

I remember going to my first gay club in Washington, D.C. in the early 1990s. I had gone with a group of newfound friends that I had met in the city�s gay youth support group. The support group was vital to my coming out and it was a safe place for me to meet other people like myself and be there for each other. The gay club was the natural extension for this new found liberation. We felt like the a gay version of the X-men except instead of super powers we each had a trait, skill, or talent that made each of each equally fabulous as a mutant. I remember dancing with my fellow gay X-men at Tracks DC and hearing Crystal Waters� Gypsy Woman for the first time, feeling the lights and the beat and just getting lost. I felt safe and I felt loved for just being me.

The X-men naturally followed the gay narrative but of all the X-men, Bobby Drake seemed the most likely to be like me. I loved this story line of the younger Iceman coming out to himself and then in these pages, the older self syncing with his younger self. It was a great opportunity to tell the coming out story differently. What I loved most was that Bobby felt loved and safe with his fellow X-men, especially Jean. Coming out was always traumatic and scary so being in the right place with the right people made me feel loved and safe.

My heart is broken but I know time will heal but we will never forget.
Moreover, if we learn anything, nothing comes from hate.

Thanks to Brian M Bendis and Mahmud Asrar for such a beautiful set of pages. I hope to buy them all one day.

They will always be loved and never forgotten.
