DescriptionI am particularly excited to share this acquisition with the CAF community! Back in the 1960s, Pete Hawley painted a series of four illustrations for the Donald Art Company under the pseudonym, "Kwatz," and I was lucky to stumble upon the entire set! These illustrations were used in a series of "Go-Go" decorative prints as well as a series of jigsaw puzzles called "The Mods" for Milton Bradley. Although they are often categorized with the popular "big-eye" art of the day, Hawley's paintings maintain his trademark warmth rather than portraying the subjects with creepy, blank stares. I think these are just lovely, and Hawley's family has been kind enough to let me have some of the original reference Polaroids that he used! My personal favorite is the one with the blonde and the Micky Dolenz-looking guy on the moped! Which one is yours?Social/Sharing |
