DescriptionWhile this issue of Thor was among the first 7-8 issues of Thor I started adding to my pull list at my local comic shop (Fantasy Headquarters in Brooklyn) the joy I get from it has more to do with the story arc. I loved the Frenz era on Thor and do not care if it was emulating the style of Kirby. This was my Thor artist. This arc remains one of my all-time favorite Thor storylines to this day. The war with the Egyptian Gods produced a great villain in Seth from a time when Marvel knew how to utilize their villains in storytelling. The story was great with a feverish battle with Thor, a guest spot by Daredevil and I even thought Thor's buddy Hogun might not make it! It was also the first appearance of the Earth Force. When I was 13 they represented what looked like one incredibly awe-inspiring group. Colorful costumes and great powers with names like Earth Lord, Wind Warrior, and Skyhawk I knew these guys would be here to stay! Alas, I was wrong. They appeared in the arc and a handful of other times but I still like them and it is always special to get a first appearance cover where the characters appear on the cover in a pitched battle with a huge Thor image! I have long regretted parting with another Frenz Thor and I finally got to replace it and add a nearly 30-year-old Thor cover on a cool black cover expertly inked by Brett Breeding. Who knows? Maybe the next NetFlix Marvel series will be a tree-hugging drama about Earth Force. The Mighty Thor #395 September, 1988 "Enter The Earth Force!" Writer: Tom DeFalco Social/Sharing |

I am such a huge fan of the Frenz run of Thor. These were some of the most exciting storylines, and I don't look at the Kirby throwback style as a negative thing one bit!! Seriously, those Frenz covers are some of my favorites in part because he was paying homage to the king!! This one is hard!

Great add, Jason! Love Thor's perspective, and first appearances ain't easy to come regardless of characters! I picked up Thor here and there during this time and it was primarily due to Ron's bombastic art - you've got a stellar example here. What's funny is I love the issue after this one's cover and would love to see that surface some day! Sincere congrats on this - your enthusiasm rings through!
