DescriptionI found a complete "Sidekicks" set in my store a few months ago and decided to take it home since no one really looks at that part of the set rack.So "Sidekicks" was a miniseries from Oni Press that was written by J. Torres and illustrated by Takeshi Miyazawa. The idea was centered around a school people could send their kids to if they had superpowers, since it was against the law for anyone under 18 to operate with superpowers but without sanctioned training. Some of the staff were retired superheroes (and a one-shot focused on a retired villain working as a substitute). The series as a whole only has five issues, as according to J. Torres when I asked online, things kept getting in the way and work on the series had to be put on the back shelf for him and Miyazawa. There was originally talk of doing a spin-off that focused on the school's first graduating class. Garth was one of the supporting characters and honestly he was kind of an asshole. He had the power to transform into a wolf (hence the wolves on his speedo), but he was one of those characters who could control how far along the transformation went (like growing claws and fangs instead of turning completely wolf). He usually tended to be on karma's receiving end whenever he was being a jerk, but he didn't seem to be all bad. He was grateful when main character Terry Highland helped undo a curse that removed his mouth, and he was nice to his grandmother while staying with her in France for summer vacation. Scott Morse did a short story about said vacation, where he spent most of his time in the woods around her house in wolf-form and just enjoying nature. Yeah no he wasn't heavyset in the comic but you should know the drill with me by now. I'm thinking of having the beach setting done as theme with this artist. Social/Sharing |
