DescriptionTo own this page is to fulfill a dream that I had for a while, and that was to own a page from the Belit saga in Conan the Barbarian. When I was about 11 (in 1995), a Croatian publisher called Slobodna Dalmacija started publishing Conan comics in B&W. I did not buy the first issue immediately, but soon bought number #2 and I loved it. The second issue had art by Gil Kane, and I do not remember having an opinion about it, but I liked the comic. Issue 3 had art by Buscema and Chan, and about that time I started buying it regularly. It was also quite cheap. The publisher always put about 2 random issues into a single comic, or an annual of some kind. Of course, I did not know this at the time, as I was quite young and knew almost nothing about American comics. And of course, there was no Internet. In issue 6 they started with the Belit saga, starting after Conan and Belit had already met. Much later I discovered that it was actually issue 74. Slobodna managed to publish 49 issues of the comic, which was enough to cover the remainder of the saga, and many subsequent issues. The Belit saga remains for me the best Conan. There are many different opinions on who the best Buscema inker is, but to me it is Chan. I just like that art, perhaps nostalgia plays a part in this, I do not know, but owning this page is definitely a dream come true. I wish I had met Buscema or Chan, unfortunately I was born too late and in the wrong part of the world. I few years ago Thomas was a guest of the London Super Comic Con, and that was the only year I did not go there. Who knows, maybe I will get lucky one day. Social/Sharing |
